Solid-state analysis

This course is connected with the course "Setting parameters of APIs and drug formulations with regard to polymorphism and optical purity". The course proposes a basic overview of methods and techniques used for solid-state analysis:

• X-ray diffraction;
• vibrational and rotational spectroscopy (NIR, MIR, Raman scattering, THz);
• solid-state NMR spectroscopy (ssNMR);
• thermal analysis (DTA, DSC, TGA, TSC, etc.);
• particle size and shape analysis (optical microscopy, electron microscopy, laser diffraction, dynamic scattering, etc.);
• surface analysis (porosimetry, AFM, inverse GC, etc.).

The course is intended for all interested specialists who face a necessity to equip laboratories for solid-state analysis, for patent specialists who experience a need to deepen knowledge in this field and for managers who consider whether large investments should be made in this area. It is also intended for all specialists dealing with solid-state analysis in the industrial sector, educational establishments, state and private institutions. Tthe course is also suitable for pharmacists working in pharmacies of all types whose specialization is pharmaceutical control.

Case studies are an integral part of the course.

The course is run by lecturers having sufficient experience and results in the field. The guarantor of the course is Assoc. Prof. Jiří Dohnal who deals with solid-state analysis on a long-term basis. His professional experience guarantees the quality of the whole course. Other lecturers are Veronika Grünwaldová and Josef Jampílek.
